The only statutory right to compassionate leave is the right to time off for dependants. This is covered in the separate section on time off for dependants. Otherwise, there are no statutory requirements on how and when you offer compassionate leave.
It is common to allow employees a period of time off following any personal or family event that causes serious disruption or distress, such as the death or illness of a close relative or friend. You will need to think about how much compassionate leave to grant and whether it will be paid.
