Unrelated Short-Term Absence

How you treat frequent short term intermittent absences depends on whether they are related or not:

  • If they are related, or are caused by an underlying medical condition, deal with them in the same way as long-term absences under your sickness absence management policy;
  • If they are unrelated, deal with it as a disciplinary matter by issuing warnings, usually in terms of your disciplinary policy.

This section deals only with frequent short-term absences where those absences are unrelated.
