Zero Hours Contracts – “Survey Says…”

The office for National Statistics has conducted a snapshot survey on the use of zero hours contracts by employers in the UK. The survey found that around 1.4 million employees were employed on zero hours contracts and that zero hours contracts were used by 13% of the employers surveyed.

The government’s recent consultation on zero hours contracts closed on 13 March 2014. The consultation identified exclusivity clauses and a lack of transparency as two key concerns posed by zero hours contracts and asked for views on potential solutions. The consultation received a high level of interest, with over 30,000 responses.

We’ll let you know as soon as the government publishes its response.
