When can sickness absence be treated as a conduct issue?
An employee’s absence from work due to illness or injury is usually not their fault. However, there can be situations where the circumstances which caused the illness were within the employee’s control, in which case the employer may be entitled to treat any further absence as a conduct issue.
Here is a link to an article I wrote for Personnel Today which deals with this issue. I’d be interested to read any comments you might have.
