Tribunal begins hearing Deliveroo case
On 23 May 2017 a tribunal began to determine if Deliveroo's riders can be represented by the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) and whether the cyclists are self-employed, as Deliveroo claims, or in fact employees. Deliveroo could face its toughest challenge yet to its business model, which relies on self-employed riders, if the Central Arbitration Committee finds in favour of the IWGB, which commented: "It's of huge public importance...it goes to the heart of what the gig economy is all about".http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2017/05/23/deliveroo-denies-riders-workers-gig-economy-tribunal-begins/
