Thinktank urges minimum wage for self-employed

A report from thinktank The Resolution Foundation calls on the Government to assist those suffering from low pay by extending minimum wage legislation so that it covers the 4.8 million self-employed workforce. It said that the introduction of the "national living wage", which pays £7.50 an hour for workers aged 25 and over, had reduced low pay among employees but not the self-employed, because they are not entitled to it. By widening protections to those self-employed people whose prices are set by a firm, they would be given protection against extreme low pay "for the first time ever".
