Supreme Court judgment in Haywood notice case - Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust v Haywood [SupCrt EW] 25.04.18

If an employee was dismissed on written notice posted to his home address, then in the absence of an express contractual term specifying when the notice period would begin to run there was an implied term that it would begin to run from the date when the letter was received by the employee and the employee had either read or had a reasonable opportunity to read it.
