New ACAS equality guides
ACAS has reported that in the last 12 months, it has dealt with around 50,000 calls to its helpline on discrimination and diversity (5.5% of all calls). Last week it introduced three new practical guides to help employers and managers understand the basics of equality law; take steps to prevent discrimination; and know what to do if allegations of discrimination in the workplace arise. The guides can be found here:
Equality and discrimination: Understand the basics. This sets out the law on discrimination in terms of the Equality Act 2010 with examples to help employers understand their obligations.
Prevent discrimination: Support equality. This is a practical guide on how to prevent discrimination and promote equality in the workplace, covering issues such as recruitment policies, dress codes and religious practices.
Discrimination: What to do if it happens. This guide provides advice on how to investigate and handle allegations of discrimination.
