More than 83,000 early conciliation cases handled in first year

Three in four people participated in the Acas early conciliation (EC) scheme in its first year, with 83 per cent satisfied with the service they received, according to official figures. Acas dealt with over 83,000 EC cases between April 2014 – when the scheme launched – and March 2015. Only 10 per cent of employees and 11 per cent of employers rejected an offer of EC during this time. The service was introduced as a result of a change in the law in May last year, requiring anyone thinking of lodging an employment tribunal claim to contact Acas first to try to resolve the dispute through EC.
