Measuring Socio-economic Background in your Workforce: recommended measures for use by employers

Following a 2016 consultation on measuring socio-economic background in workforces, the Government has published recommendations on how employers can measure socio-economic background. The document, published on 19 March 2019 but dated May 2018, recommends four measures to be commonly used by employers, including the Civil Service. These are measures of: parental qualifications; parental occupation; type of school attended and eligibility for free school meals.
