Law Society criticise Employment Tribunal fees
The Law Society of Scotland has urged the UK government to undertake an urgent review of Employment Tribunal fees.
The Law Society claims that the fees, introduced last year, are behind the 81% drop in the number of cases going before Employment Tribunals in the UK. They have condemned the fee regime as “a major barrier to access to justice” as the level of fees prevent people with valid claims from raising them at an Employment Tribunal.
The UK Justice Minister Shailesh Vara responded to the Law Society’s findings by emphasising that the government has been “very careful” in ensuring that those who have limited means will have their fee waived.
