Government review to order zero-hours contracts overhaul
The government-commissioned inquiry into working practices, being led by Matthew Taylor, is set to call for employees on zero-hours contracts to be given the right to request guaranteed hours from their employer. Employers will be expected to respond "seriously" to the request and give reasons for their decision. The TUC has criticised the proposal saying it does not go far enough and has called for workers to be given a legal right to a guaranteed number of hours, with an option to choose a different employment contract arrangement if they want.
