Employment Law Hearing Structures: Report.HC Paper No.308 (Session 2019/21); Law Com No 390

A Law Commission report makes recommendations to improve how employment tribunals (ETs) operate and how employment disputes are decided. Recommendations include: increasing the powers of ETs so that they can decide claims of breach of contract brought by employees and workers while they are still employed; increasing the time limit for bringing all types of ET claims to six months; giving ETs the power to give damages in breach of contract claims of up to £100,000; and allowing ETs to hear complaints by employees that they are working hours in excess of the maximum working time limits.
