EAT unfair dismissal re comments made by employee on social media - British Waterways Board (t/a Scottish Canals) v Smith [EAT] 03.08.15 (Unreported)

Unfair dismissal - Comments on social media - Employee writing Facebook entries about drinking when on standby at work and stating offensive views of colleagues - Whether employer acting reasonably in dismissing him. HELD employer's appeal allowed. The dismissal was not unfair. The ET had substituted its own views for that of the employer. A reasonable investigation had taken place, the employer lost confidence in the employee, and that a fair procedure was followed.
