BIS publishes research paper on compensated no fault dismissals
Jesse blogged recently about the fact that the government may abandon its proposals to introduce “compensated no fault dismissals” for small employers. No final decision has however been made yet.
The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (“BIS”) has now published a research paper looking at similar schemes in Germany, Australia and Spain, with a view to deciding whether the proposals should be implemented in the UK. Germany and Australia exempt small business from the application of unfair dismissal legislation, whereas Spain has recently introduced reform similar to the no fault dismissals proposed here. The aim of the paper is to stimulate reflection and debate about the UK’s dismissal processes. Views can be submitted until Friday 9 June 2012, via BIS’s call for evidence in connection with the proposal.
