Bike courier wins "gig economy" employment case

Mags Dewhurst, a bicycle courier working for the delivery firm CitySprint, has won her employment tribunal case against the company. She was held to be entitled to paid holidays and minimum pay in what is regarded as an important ruling on the "gig economy". The tribunal found that the courier was an employee rather than self-employed. This is the first of four legal challenges being taken against courier companies, and follows a similar ruling against Uber in July 2016.
