Whistleblowing: Policy & Contracts

It is important to have a whistleblowing policy in place encouraging workers to make disclosures internally. It can outline which disclosures are protected; who concerns should be reported to; how investigations will be conducted etc.

Contracts of employment can require employees to disclose details of any wrongdoing they become aware of. It is not possible to use ‘gagging clauses’ to stop employees making protected qualifying disclosures.
