Grievance: Formal or Informal?
Some grievances can be dealt with effectively without going through a formal grievance process.
Grievance policies often encourage employees to raise issues informally with their line manager in the first instance. You can also ask an employee who has raise a formal grievance about something relatively minor whether they would be happy for it to be dealt with informally.
Remember too that mediation can be an effective way of resolving disputes.
