Time off for Dependants: Risks

If you unreasonably refuse time off for dependants where an employee is entitled to it, they can bring an employment tribunal claim. An employee will also be able to bring a claim if they are dismissed or subjected to a detriment for taking time off for dependants: this would include disciplining an employee for taking time off in circumstances where you incorrectly refused their request. Take care to avoid discrimination when managing requests for time off for dependants.
