Shared Parental Pay: Mothers

During shared parental leave, a mother is not entitled to her normal pay (unless you provide for this in your policy or the employee’s contract) but may qualify for statutory shared parental pay (ShPP). Not all employees who are entitled to shared parental leave will qualify for ShPP as the eligibility criteria are slightly different. For ShPP to be available, a mother must curtail her entitlement to statutory maternity pay or maternity allowance. This creates weeks of ShPP which can be claimed by either the mother or her partner if they are eligible.
