Shared Parental Pay: Fathers
During shared parental leave, a father/partner is not entitled to their normal pay (unless you provide for this in your policy or the employee’s contract) but may qualify for statutory shared parental pay (ShPP). Not all employees who are entitled to shared parental leave will qualify for ShPP as the eligibility criteria are slightly different. For ShPP to be available, the child’s mother must curtail her entitlement to statutory maternity pay or maternity allowance. This creates weeks of ShPP which can be claimed by either the mother or father/partner if they are eligible.
