Shared Parental Leave: Period of Leave Notice

To take shared parental leave, an employee must give you a ‘period of leave’ notice. This is in addition to their notice of entitlement (and their curtailment notice if they are a mother or primary adopter). In their period of leave notice, employees can request continuous or discontinuous periods of leave and must include particular information. You must accept a request for continuous leave but you are entitled to refuse a request for discontinuous leave. We discuss the notice an employee must give, and how you should respond to and manage requests for periods of shared parental leave.
