Maternity: Health and Safety

In addition to your general duty to protect the health and safety of your workers, there are specific duties relating to women who are pregnant, have given birth within the last six months or are breastfeeding. You must assess the health and safety risks and avoid exposing individuals to risks. In some circumstances, this may involve temporarily adjusting an employee’s working conditions or hours, moving her to suitable alternative role or, as a last resort, suspending her for as long as necessary to avoid the risk.
