Before Managing Performance

Before starting a performance management process it is good practice to:

  • Look at whether the issue is truly one of performance rather than conduct
  • Read through your performance management policy
  • Consider the ACAS Code
  • Find out what exactly the performance issue is
  • Rectify any underlying reasons for the underperformance, such as lack of training or supervision
  • Decide whether to deal with the issue formally or informally
