Dismissal: Damage to Reputation
Damage to your reputation, or a genuine risk of such damage, can amount to ‘some other substantial reason’ justifying an employee’s dismissal. The risk of reputational damage might stem from, for example, an employee making inappropriate comments on social media, or an employee being convicted of a criminal offence. However, even if you have this potentially fair reason for dismissal, you still need to follow a fair procedure and act fairly and reasonably overall to avoid a claim of unfair dismissal.
