At the very least, all employees are entitled to a written statement which includes certain basic information about your disciplinary rules and procedures, but having a more comprehensive disciplinary policy is certainly advisable. Your policy should be drafted with the particular needs of your business in mind. Communication is vital: you must give employees advance warning of the types of conduct that will result in disciplinary action, and ensure your managers are trained to apply your policy consistently and effectively.
